1958 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser
Rare Super Marauder Tri-Power Engine
Rare Super Marauder 430 cubic inch V8 engine featuring tri-power carburetion and a very unique factory aluminum air cleaner. This engine program was outsourced to Bill Stroppe's shop in California where he headed up Mercury's west coast racing efforts. Stroppe had a long relationship with Ford dating back to the 1940's when he met Henry Ford II at an annual boat race in Detroit. Later, Stroppe would become best known for his success in racing modified Ford Bronco's in the Baja 1000 with Parnelli Jones as his driver. The unusual air cleaner was designed for Mercury by California Hot Rodder Lynn Wineleand who had, years earlier, worked in Fords design department. These engines were the first to be factory rated at 400 horsepower by an American manufacturer! Very few of these engines were built. Research indicates that about 100 motors were produced and most were dealer installed. One source stated only 13 left the factory with this engine. This stunning Turnpike cruiser is a dealer installed Super Marauder and it's loaded with options including factory air conditioning, power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seat with memory option, power rear "breezeway window", fender skirts, wide whitewalls and a continental kit. A truly amazing example of a fabulous fifties cruiser! Call Tom or Dave at (407) 428-0116 for details. All cars are shown by appointment. Please be sure to call or email before visiting as we do not keep regular hours at our warehouse. Thanks for looking!
